This is the title of Belinda Carli’s article on how to select the right actives to combat different symptoms of ageing skin, see page 20 ff. In recent decades the average life expectancy has increased tremendously. Statis- tics assume humans can reach an age of up to 125 years. Interestingly, the lifespan in various animal species can be increased by genetic or pharmaceutical intervention. Xiao Dong, Brandon Milholland and Jan Vijg of New York’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine conducted a story how long a human lifespan really is. In their study, published in Nature* in October, they observed after analysing global demographic data, the age at death of the world’s oldest person has not increased since the 1990s. Thus the scientists concluded the maximum lifespan of humans is fixed and subject to natural con- straints. Despite the limitations of human longevity, there are such a multitude of skin conditions that accompany us up to the age of 125 that cosmetic producers should not run out of ideas to accommodate these with appropriate skin care products. * www.nature.com/nature/journal/v538/n7624/full/nature19793.html Sincerely yours, Angelika Meiss Senior editor, COSSMA AGEINGGRACEFULLY...
