Away from superfoods, hyaluronic acid is an ingredient well-known to most consumers and a new, modi- fied version of it uses crosslinks to provide even longer-lasting mois- ture benefits for the skin. This new hyaluronic acid type will help com- panies develop products that meet consumers’ needs for a higher de- gree of moisturisation more effec- tively. Highlighted below is a selection of some of the most interesting new products from Mintel GNPD* which include these intriguing new active ingredients. Whitening cream with gac extract In Thailand, Reunrom Gac Whiten- ing Cream features gac extract, which is rich in lycopene, to help gently brighten the skin as well as prevent the signs of ageing. It also contains AHA, to help rejuvenate dead skin cells and moisturise the skin for a smooth-to-the-touch expe- rience, and arbutin, vitamin C, glu- tathione and hexanoyl dipeptide-3 norleucine acetate, which are said to create naturally-brightened skin. Body mist for 72 hour hydration In Australia, Hand Chemistry Hyalu- ronic Body Mist claims to provide 72 hours of hydration both below and on the surface of the skin. This non-aerosol mist with sodium hya- S kin care brands are continu- ously searching for the next “hero” ingredient that can dif- ferentiate them in the market. Min- tel’s anticipated 2025 beauty trend Gastronomia shows how consum- ers are interested in natural/organ- ic ingredients from fruits and vege- tables, preferably locally grown, to help their skin look healthy. Superfoods offer an opportunity for brands to differentiate from one an- other. But ambiguous claims relying on the use of “superfood” as a mar- keting term are likely to be ques- tioned by Asia’s increasingly savvy consumer base. With this in mind, brands should clearly showcase the benefits of individual superfoods as a means of sustaining consumers’ trust, and thus drive the natural market’s popularity upwards.
