Once the device has analysed the smell, its message will read: ‘it’s okay’, ‘it’s time’, or ‘it’s urgent’. Nivea’s online store then offers the user deodorants when the applica- tion shows ‘it’s time’ and shower gels when it reads ‘it’s urgent’. AM such, they’re faced with a dilemma: how can they find out if their body odour is unacceptable? The world’s first electronic nose for smartphones Nivea Men has developed a solution which might be quite appealing to men: Nose. Nose, apparently the world’s first electronic nose for smartphones, will be able to tell men whether or not their body odour is okay. Once the application is opened, all one needs to do is place the phone close to the armpit. The uniquely designed cover contains W e know that men and women are different. One difference is that male body odour is somewhat more pro- nounced than that of their female counterparts. This can turn into an issue. After all, male olfaction is on average much less sensitive than that of women. In fact, the ar- ea of the brain capable of perceiv- ing odour is apparently 40 per cent smaller in males. In addition, men have another little problem: their brains are so used to their own body odour that they often can’t smell their own sweat!
