PACKAGING NEWS PRODUCTION COSSMA 12I2013 35 NEWS Packaging Lots of new board options Luxe Pack Monaco 2013 I Extensive remodelling of BillerudKorsnäs’ board machine has opened up the possibility of fine tuning the properties of cartonboard material further, especially in terms of appearance and printability. This upgrade is characterised by a more even surface and a triple coating which leads to reduced white top mottling and improved colour printing. Metsä Boards Modo Northern Light lightweight, uncoated liner with a more intense white, is ideal for fine corrugated applications as well as traditional corrugated paper packaging. It is suitable for external and internal packaging for use with high quality products such as cosmetics. The latest developments in the Carta Elega range with improved white tone and Avanta Prima with a lighter weight, are now more suitable for use with cosmetics and luxury packaging. Iggesund’s Incada in its optimum quality is claimed to be not only whiter (about 7.5 units higher to 120 on the CIE scale), but also to have better print characteristics. The increased rigidity can, whilst protect- ing the contents to the same level, offer a lower packaging weight. In the Iggesund Paperboard factory in Workington, where Icada board is made, the energy source of fossilised natural gas is converted to biomass. Thus the fossil CO2 emissions are reduced from over 190,000 tonnes per annum to zero. This is equivalent to a drop in emissions from more than 65,000 cars. The Global Compact 100, a new stock index that combines sustainability with financial performance, lists Holmen, the forestry group to which Iggesund Paperboard belongs, in the 100 leading companies in the world with regard to sustainability. Trucard from the employee-owned company Tullis Russell, has been se- lected by the natural Greek cosmetics brand Apivita for cartons made from FSC recycled cartonboard with a pre- mium look and feel distributed to 14 countries worldwide. Sprayer needs no overcap Lindal I The new Sunny twist-lock spray actuator with no overcap is suitable for products such as deodorants and antiperspirants, sun protec- tion sprays and self-tanning products. Thanks to its ergonomic design it is easy to operate and yet can be subject to a considerable loading. It is the first to be made in the new Itupeva facility in São Paulo, Brazil, and so offers optimum delivery times for clients all across the Americas. photo:Lindal photoMetsäBoard The ergonomic design provides a user-friendly feel After-glow effects Grafe I The Grafe Group offer glowing masterbatches in a wide range of colours and plastic applications. From in- jection moulding, through extrusions, to spun fibres, all are possible. The demand for masterbatches for plastic with a glowing colour is huge. A new colour effect works like a starry night sky. At one time only one colour could be supplied but to- day there are lots of very different possibilities that can be offered for glowing plastics. The company is in a position to produce masterbatches for all current thermoplastics as well as adjusting light intensity and duration to suit the user. Conventional products could previously be equipped with just one glowing green/yellow tone. The new masterbatch can now glaze products in a wide choice of colours.
