emulsifier. This versatile PEG-free O/W emulsifier, fully based on renewable sources, is NaTrue and Ecocert approved. Covering the need of sustainability this emulsifier provides emulsion stability of sun care formulations containing a high level of water-soluble UV filters or other challenging ingredients. It is particularly suit- able for low-viscosity sun care lotions and sprays. In addition, it provides moisturizing properties proven in-vivo. Zschimmer & Schwarz showed BrentaKer L, a new raw materi- al for cosmetics and spa products produced from inorganic silt and containing the minerals of the Dolomites. Just after its extrac- tion, it is a paste which is turned into a micronized dust by air dry- ing, and maintains its organoleptic properties. The fine brownish powder used for anti-acne and slimming products also reduced skin redness and camouflaged the veins. The first prize went to SymSave from Symrise. A new type of substance with a multifunctional action, hydroxyacetophenone can improve the antimicrobial performance of cosmetic products, so enabling a lower amount of classic preservatives to be used. Furthermore it helps to sta- bilise emulsions. The product is also used as an antioxidant and anti-ir- ritant ingredient in anti-ageing applications as well as in skin cleansing products. The second prize went to Melavoid from Provital. This extract from the punarnava flower (Boerhavia diffusa), which has long been known as a healing plant in traditional Indian medicine, allows the skin to be made lighter by a reduction in the biosynthesis of the enzyme tyrosinase, which catalyses the melanin pigmentation in the skin. Another second prize was awarded to Neodermyl from Induchem (see page 34). At a glance: the 60th SEPAWA Since 2010 Fulda has been the new location for the SEPAWA congress, and visitor numbers have risen by 50 percent. The last congress, with 207 stands, numerous congress talks and a short presentation, in Octo- ber 2103 attracted 2166 participants. The move to Fulda in 2010 initial- ly allowed for 26 stands, in the following year a further 39 were added. Almost one third of the participants now come from neighbouring Euro- pean countries. The SEPAWA Congress, the European Detergents Conference, the DGP (Deutsche Gesellschaft der Parfümeure) event and the DGK (Deutsche Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche und angewandte Kosmetik) event ensure a very varied programme of information. The event is also a platform for new ideas and offers a chance to show new products in a series of short presentations. The next event takes place from October 15th to 17th 14 in Fulda 20 Winners of the first innovation prizes: Symrise (Ev Süß), Induchem (David Eggler) and Provital (Hagen Döring) photos:KatrinHeyer COS1312_32_Sepawa_GB_COS1105_10_Anti_Aging_GB 25.11.13 14:04 Seite 33
