34 COSSMA 12I2013 PRODUCTION NEW INGREDIENTS 3 innovation awards Induchem I Induchem not only received the C&T R&D Award at In-Cosmetics Asia 2013 for Neodermyl, its needle-free equivalent of injectable collagen and elastin fillers, but it was also honored during In-Cosmet- ics Paris with the Gold Award, as well as in the SEPAWA tradeshow with an Innovation Award. The active ingredi- ent is claimed to be the first in reactivating both collagen and elastin synthesis in the skin, and to re-energize senes- cent fibroblasts by supplying them with an activated source of cellular energy. Synthetized by means of a patented green chemistry process, this active ingredient delivers equivalent results to one needle injection of colla- gen by a plastic surgeon (i.e. 15% wrinkles depth reduc- tion) in just 15 days, while improving skin elasticity by a factor of 2 and skin firmness by a factor of 13 on a panel of volunteers aged 61 +/-7 years. NEWS Ingredients photo:ValuaVitaly,Shutterstock.com Needle-free equivalent of injectable collagen and elastin fillers Effect glitter for water-based formulations Sigmund Lindner (SiLi) I The range of water-based formulations that require a long shelf life goes through lip gloss and nail polish to liquid soaps and skin care products. When using effect glitter, which gives a brilliant gleam, there is, with water-based formulations, the risk that the glitter, in particular silver glitter, can be chemically attacked and lose its brilliance during its storage period. The glitter particles are mechanically cut, in a precise way, from polyester film and to achieve the desired glitter effect are then given a very thin aluminium coating whose surface is protected by a transparent coating. During the cutting process there arise certain cut edges where the aluminium coating is not protected and so can react chemical- ly with water molecules in the formulation. Depending on the pH level of the formulation this undesirable reaction can even be accelerated. By using the patented SiLiglam process the individ- ual glitter particles are enclosed by a secondary coating. This secondary coating improves the chemical resistance, provides improved brilliance, and allows a longer shelf life with no loss of colour or glitter. It has a very good wetting perform- ance in water-based systems and offers increased freedom in relation to the ingredients and the pH level.
