Last but certainly not least, South
American products utilize even
SPF 99, with one-third protection
from UVA rays. This is the highest
claimable protection level world-
wide. Certainly this is good news
for all South Americans while
posing a challenge to sunscreen
manufacturers to incorporate
very high UV-filter concentrations
while at the same time keeping a
light formulation.
What are your company’s latest
solutions to serve these trends?
BASF has and will continue to
provide both efficient and photo-
stable UV-filters. Over the last few
decades we have continuously in-
troduced new filters to the market
despite high regulatory hurdles.
These filters represent the base of
creating new sunscreen products
with the highest protection levels
while maintaining a light sensory
feeling. For example, in order to
enable sunscreen manufacturers
to develop lighter sunscreen for-
mulations, we recently started of-
fering a water-dispersed UV-filter
Tinosorb A2B
, which is a highly
efficient UVB/UVAII-filter, as well
as
Tinosorb S Aqua
, an encapsu-
lated water-dispersible version of
this otherwise oil-soluble
broad-spectrum UV-filter. Both of
these filters will greatly aid in the
creation of a lighter and more
pleasant formulation in sun-
screens and many other daily care
products.
What are your company’s most
innovative sun care formula-
tions?
A few of the latest products that
we help our customers to develop
include:
Aqua-touch
, which is a
lighter formulation that surpasses
the usual, stereotypical sunscreen
by feeling more like a daily body
lotion.
Dry-touch sunscreens
dry quickly
and leave no shine.
Cream2powder
solutions provide
an ultra-dry touch for make-up
and other daily care products.
And last but not least
Refreshing
mist sunscreens
which combine
easy application with a refreshing
feeling.
With our long-standing formula-
tion expertise we also provide
customised support to all of our
international customers.
