Trying to overcome the stereotypi-
cal stickiness of high-SPF sun-
screens certainly is one way to
perpetuate a global trend worth
supporting. All these trends are
good news for the consumer who
wants to prevent long-term sun-re-
lated skin damages.
What are the latest main region-
al sun care product trends?
In Asia, increasing UVA protec-
tion levels is certainly a hot topic;
increasing the standard of the
Protection Grade of UVA (PA)
from PA+++ to PA+++ forms
a challenge for the manufactur-
ers. Additionally, China increased
the maximum SPF rating from
30+ to 50+. However, this raise
in standard is good news for the
Chinese consumer.
In North America, unfortunately,
there still are no new approved
filters. This clearly prevents the
US consumer to receive high pro-
tection from sun-related skin
damages which consumers in
other regions of the world are al-
ready now used to.
In Europe, regulations requiring
high-SPF and UVA-protection have
been in place for some time. Here,
product improvements are clearly

Globally, we’re seeing
that awareness for UV protection
continues to be on the rise. High-
SPF values are being applied
worldwide and also the aware-
ness for high UVA protection con-
tinues to expand. At the same
time, a lot of effort is being put in-
