moisturizing system Hydro-Gain as well as Evonik’s hair life cycle balancer Sphingony. New approaches to sun care were also on show. Merck showed the new multi-benefit titanium dioxide UV filter Eusolex T-Easy. DSM showed insights obtained from a consumer study and converted into new formulations. Hair care solutions were another important part of the Forum for Innova- tions – after all hair care is globally one of the largest personal care categories. The products on display included Dow Corning’s silicone polyether CE-1874 Microemulsion for light weight hair care products, BASF’s high performance hair conditioning solutions based on consumer requirements obtained from the results of a consumer study, Kreglinger’s Kerabead charged film mi- SEPAWA Innovation Awards 2014 At the 2014 awards scheme, awarded for only the second time this year, the Innovation Prize went to Dow Corning’s ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier. This versatile and easily added W/O emulsifier is claimed to improve the efficacy of colour cosmetics and sun protection prod- ucts. As an emulsifier that can be used in the oil phase with silicone oil as well as with a blend of natural and silicone oils, the ingredient was developed as a PEG-free system, where the function of the PEG is replaced by hydrophilic diglycerine. Another first prize was made to Krüss for the Mobile Surface Analyzer-MSA for mobile quality control of cleaned surfaces. This mobile fully au- tomatic instrument for the mobile quality testing of cleaned surfaces allows the non-destructive measurement of wetting and surface free energy of solid bodies via the contact angle in few seconds. The meas- urement is also possible on vertical surfaces as well overhead. BASF’s Cetiol Ultimate was awarded the third prize. With a comparably high spreadability the hydrocarbon, based on renewable resources, pro- vides as good as, if not better, performance than Cyclomethicon. Based on its high level of volatility it leaves a fresh, dry skin feel and so meets the trend for light formulations. Hence elegant textures can be created for natural cosmetics with improved sensory properties.
