T here were four talks on success- ful product preservation by Inolex, Dr. Straetmans, Schülke and Cosphatec. An interesting point to emerge, for instance, was an overview of which preservatives were the most commonly used in international launches. One part of the presentations in the Forum for Innovations was dedicated to emollients, solubilisers, polymers, formulating technology and concepts. Dow Corning’s innovation award- winning ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier, Brenntag’s PEG-free fra- grance solubiliser Poly Suga Mulse D9, Dow Chemical’s technology based on polyolefin gel structure, EcoSmooth Delight, Hallstar’s viscosity booster Olivem VS Feel derived from Olive Lipids, Croda’s oil structuring OleoCraft polymers which can form crystal clear thermo-reversible gels, Evoniks’s new solubiliser for lipophilic native oils and emollients Tego Solve 2,139 visitors from 41 countries! That was the statistic from the 61st SEPAWA, which was held in Fulda in parallel with the 10th Euro- pean Detergents Conference (EDC). In addition to the talks by a number of industry experts there were 215 exhibitors showing off their ranges and their latest developments. Here we summarise for you the highlights of the “Forum for Innovations: Personal Care”. 36 COSSMA 12I2014 A short review of the SEPAWA congress Cosmetic Highlights PRODUCTION EVENTS Prizewinning youngsters As part of their commitment to encourage younger people in the business SEPAWA hon- oured a total of five outstanding Bachelor theses – 2 in the cosmetics business – and 2 dissertations – 1 in cosmetics. The first prize for Bachelor thesies went to Claudia Bern- hardt from the college of Westfalia-Lippe. Her work covered a method of differentiating hair qualities via the isoionic point. For her work on the impact of different galenic and rheological parameters on the sun protection factor Lisa Nahrwold from the same college was awarded a 2nd prize. Dr. Katharina Bres- sel’s dissertation on Control- ling vesicle systems by am- phiphilic copolymers at the Berlin Technical University was one of the two prizewinning doctorate theses. Anyone who wanted to catch up on the programme of talks, and keep up to date on the products from the 215 exhibitors, really had his hands full Prof. Dr. Klaus-Peter Wittern, first chairman of SEPAWA, with the winners of the student prizes photos:KatrinHeyer to use to make the formulation process easier. Numerous concepts of active ingre- dients as another important topic for state-of-the-art product concepts were presented, too, as well as the latest findings obtained from recent studies.
